This small French town in the département of Haute-Savoie, near the Swiss border, was chosen by UXCO Student for its Parc Avenue student residence. The lively town of Annemasse is just 10 minutes from Geneva.

LIFE IN ANNEMASSE

Annemasse is a French town with a population of 35,678 located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. On the border with Switzerland, it is just 7 kilometres, or 10 minutes by car, from Geneva. It is also very close to the city of Lyon, the town of Annecy and to Italy, making it a truly cosmopolitan city. With a dynamic cultural life, Annemasse has many facilities and organises many events throughout the year, these include: a cultural centre, the Château Rouge, featuring contemporary theatre, dance and music with more than 300 shows a year, a music conservatory, an auditorium, a central library and two branch libraries, a contemporary art centre (the Villa du parc) two youth cultural centres (Maison des jeunes et de la culture, or MJC in French), an associations' building in the Martin Luther King complex, 212 associations and three free festivals (Young people's book festival, in the spring; Musical summer, in July-August; and Welcome to winter, in December). The town is in the heart of the urban community of "Annemasse Aglo" (making it the second-most important economic hub in Haute Savoie) and is a dynamic, attractive town that every year attracts new students and workers commuting to Switzerland. Because of this, Annemasse's desirability as a location is not just due to the great lifestyle and fabulous cultural agenda it offers, but also for its closeness to Geneva, a world-class city that is home to the UN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), major international groups and organisations, many higher education institutions and an international airport.

STUDENT LIFE IN ANNEMASSE

Located a few kilometres from the University of Geneva, which offers courses in management, international business, banking and finance, trading, consultancy, communication, marketing and the management of family businesses, the Parc Avenue residence is also close to various grandes écoles (École Internationale de Genève, École Hôtelière de Genève, Geneva Business School, International Management School Geneva, etc.).

There is no shortage of leisure activities: bars, bowling, clubs, casinos, restaurants - or go into the beautiful city of Geneva. You could visit the old city and its treasures, its four unique museums, its famous fountain, the floral clocks, the Palais des Nations, the CERN Globe of Science and Innovation, the magnificent Mont Salève and the Quartier des Bains with the European platform of modern art. As for enjoying a great student night out in Geneva, rue de l'école de médecine has many lively bars. The city also organises the Geneva Lake Festival every year. Held on the lakeside, this series of wonderful Geneva evening events takes place over 11 days. The programme includes attractions, a large firework display and culinary creations from around the world. Student public transport fares in Annemasse are €200 for an annual pass and €22.10 for a monthly pass. In Geneva, it's CHF 450 for an annual pass and 45 CHF for a monthly pass.
