Living in Cergy-Pontoise

Located just 19 miles (30 km) from the capital and situated on the banks of the river Oise, Cergy-Pontoise is an "agglomeration community" (a government structure) that groups together 13 "communes", extending across more than 8000 hectares. The administrative capital of the Val d’Oise region, it enjoys an exceptional location, just 35 minutes from Paris and from Charles de Gaulle Airport. In terms of transport links, it is served very well by the A and C lines of the RER, the local railway service, providing quick links to Gare du Nord and Gare Saint-Lazare, two of the railway stations in Paris.

Home to more than 11,000 companies, Cergy-Pontoise is a major economic hub in the Île-de-France region where major international corporations such as Renault, Thalès or Louis-Vuitton are located side by side with SMEs and start-ups, across almost 15 business parks.

However, Cergy-Pontoise is also a former royal city with more than 2000 years of history, and is proud of its cathedral and its ramparts. Here, testimony to the past exists alongside examples of modern architecture, which entitles Pontoise to label itself a ‘City of Art and History’.

Organised by the Student Council, the CECP, the university year features 2 major events: the Campus Day, an inter-school sports tournament, and Campus Live, an event centred around music at which each of the university colleges and schools fields its own music group.

In terms of activities outside of student life, Cergy-Pontoise is home to a very vibrant cultural life. With the Culture Pass created by the city, you will be able to access cultural, sporting and leisure events across the region at minimal cost. As well as the many museums and exhibition venues, you will also have access to a national stage, 26 cinema screens and 12 major events venues. Also, each year the city organises 4 festivals including "Cergy, soit!", the famous festival of street and circus arts, in early September, which welcomes nearly 40,000 spectators. As you will have gathered by now, it is impossible to get bored in Cergy-Pontoise!

Last but not least, in terms of transport, the city is served by two RER lines (A & C) which enable you to travel to the French capital with ease. It also fields 39 bus lines, 3 Transilien commuter train lines and 360 self-service bikes across 43 stations, enabling you to reach the university campus and the main points of interest in the city very easily indeed.
