OUR RESIDENCE UXCO Student IN RENNES

Rennes, ranked 7th in terms of student numbers outside the Paris area!

Rennes, the capital of Brittany, is a vibrant city with a population of over 215,000 that is full of treasures both ancient and contemporary. A student city par excellence, it attracts students from around the world every year, attracted by the quality of the education provided in its three campuses and 50 schools of higher education.

LIFE IN RENNES

Very often at the top of the rankings for attractiveness and quality of life in French cities, Rennes has outstanding advantages that enable it to offer a fantastic environment and varied landscapes providing many opportunities for cultural excursions and leisure activities while discovering the most beautiful sites in Brittany. Located near the sea but only a shade under an hour and a half away from Paris by high speed train, this city offers a host of protected natural areas. But, living in Rennes also means living in an environment that is right up there when it comes to all things digital and new technology. A large number of start-ups have, well, started up there, and these companies are constantly seeking new talent to help their businesses develop. Rennes also has an exceptional foodie culture, with the cider for which it is famed, as well as Breton crêpes and the delicious galette-saucisse, a particularly Breton take on the hot dog. Last but not least, Rennes simply exudes French joie de vivre: with its reputation as one of the most liveable cities and a pleasant city to work in, it is also the city where people are happiest in their work.

STUDENT LIFE IN RENNES

Standing at more than 67,000 in 2017, Rennes has the seventh-highest student population outside the Paris region, ahead of Toulouse, Aix-Marseille and Lille.* According to Étudiant magazine's ranking of best cities for students to live, Rennes comes fifth, with its main strengths listed as courses on offer (universities, business schools, university hospital, Sciences Po, Centrale Supélec, etc.), going out, the environment and employment. Culturally, the city puts on a broad range of events to welcome its students and help them along: Festival Tam Tam, organised by the CRIJ (Regional Youth Information Centre) and 4bis, a young people's space in the city. The universities of Rennes 1 and Rennes 2 also hold open events to guide and advise students. Rennes 1, for example, puts on an evening event every September with Planète Rennes 1. This includes a giant picnic, open-air cinema, a DJ set and entertainment for all the students on the various campuses. Rennes 2 organises a traditional campus day to help newcomers find out about student life in the city while enjoying cultural events throughout the day. Attractiveness and quality of education, environment, employment opportunities... it's all there to ensure your student years in Rennes are truly wonderful!

What else is there around Rennes? If you fancy a weekend break or going away for a few days with friends, Brittany has a host of great destinations at the ready: the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel (OK, it's not strictly in Brittany, but it is on the doorstep...) the town of Carnac and its megaliths, the Quiberon peninsula, the Gulf of Morbihan, the town of Dinan, or maybe the forest of Brocéliande, or the region's breathtaking landscapes ... nbsp;
